Just a brief update to say that the Names project is entering a second phase, thanks to continuing funding from the JISC. In this next period we will be further developing the prototype name authority system into a pilot. This continuation will extend the project for a further two years, building the prototype into a form that will be useful for repository services, and working with new sources of information to improve the quality of the data within the system.

This excellent overview of the issues faced by repository management is available (naturally) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s institutional repository.

Staff at the National Institute of Informatics in Japan have taken the trouble to translate the Names Project’s Landscape Report into Japanese for their Institutional Repositories Program. The Japanese version is available from the Program’s website.

Name authority developer post in Berlin

The Max Planck Digital Library is currently advertising the post of Scientific Developer for a name authority service that is being developed in Berlin for the Max Planck Society. We look forward to co-operating with the project team when work gets under way later in the year. The closing date for this post is 18 July.
